  • Great Vintage Sound 50s Precision Pickup!

I went down the Seymour Duncan SCPB series pickup range in reverse order. The SCPB-3 Quarter Pounder was a good but a little over the top. Next I tried the SCPB-2 Hot, which is probably the best "Overall" of the bunch but it has a lot more girth and round bottom than the original pickup versions. However, having had the opportunity to play an actual 1955/56 Fender Precision Bass, and listening to Sting's bass (which has a stacked coil version), I know how those old basses were made to sound. Comfortable lows, juicy mids and highs good enough for upper register chord playing. The vintage pickups had a certain, delicious and raw, almost raggedy type of sound. • Vintage Powerhouse

Simple original spec '56 p-bass w/ single coil pickup w/ original spec electronics. Sounds as an original vintage p-bass should, a great bass guitar. I have been asked to assemble 2 more early p-basses for my friends using the same components which includes the Seymour Duncan pickup.

  • nice tone but uneven output string to string

this pickup has a nice clear vintage tone. however, the A string pole piece is 0.060" above the flat work while the D string pole piece is 0.035" above the flatwork and the E and G poles are flush with the flatwork, making the A string much, much louder than the rest of the strings. i masked off the face of the pickup and ground the tall poles flush. this cured the uneven tone. perhaps duncan should offer "scpb-1a" with flush pole pieces
