    Modern PJ with Vintage Character

Very easy to fit, only had to solder to the jack plug. As per other reviews the wiring diagram for jack socket connection is wrong, just needs flipped. I really like the sound, which I can only describe as modern/vintage. They sound like traditional p bass but are really quiet so have a modern edge. Output is gutsy but I wouldn't describe them as hot. They cost a bit but the overall package of easy fit and sound is worth it. I upgraded a squire vintage modern pj bass and it sounds great now, warm and smooth but with bite and growl when I need it. Pickups respond to pick attack really well.

Not for my style of playing

They're a well balanced set of pups but way too hot and distorted for my "old school" style of soul and funk. They might be great for the "metal head" crowd but after three gigs I replaced em with a matched set of Lindy Fralins that were twice the price but ten times better sounding...( or so our sound man says}.....:-) All said: if your're going for the "60's" Ozzy tone then by all means buy them. As for me, I'll pass on em.

  • Easy installation

Installed this set in my Squier VM PJ-bass....fitted right in the cavity but the output jack in the kit could not be used since the Squier har a long sleeve jack. I needed to cut of the connectors on the cable in the kit and solder on the wire to the original jack. I used the original foam padding since there was no foam in the box with the EMG`s. Soundwize....not so hot sounding as some the reviews claims . The P is round and deep...well suited for rock, blues and reggae. The J is way hotter than the original Squier J and is well suited for Jaco-like stuff. The J and P together is crisp and the tone control gives the right amount of definition you`ll need for a passive PJ-bass

  • not bad at all

I'm not a big passive p-up user, but I was fixing up (hot-rodding), an old Standard 101 bass that probably cost $100 bucks new, and put some of these Geezer pick ups in it--cost more than the whole bass was worth but I was bored. I must say I was impressed from the minute I plugged it in. Very strong sounding and the alnico magnets are much clearer than the old pick ups. Also comes with the volume and tone pots and wireless connections ...whats not to like? Crank up the rear jazz pick up and you get a real "bright" sound to add to your midrange split coil slammer...makes it sound new..........

  • Great pickups but wish it had a blend control

I'm a gigging bassist, having worked in the pro circuit I am now a weekend warrior with cover and original bands. I've played a lot of different precision style basses and have tried about every aftermarket pickup. These are my favorite passive pickup for a Precision bass. I had these in another P bass so I knew the pickups were going to have the nice midrange sound with a tight bottom and growl once you got into them, which they did not disappoint. Turn down the tone and play lightly and the have a great vintage sound and work perfect with flats. Turn everything up and dig in with roundwound strings and they give you great rock sound that break up nicely. The jazz pickup sound great and is evenly matched, instead of weaker like most pj configurations. EMG did their homework and did ...
